CALC Annual Meeting September 19, 2015

A Grand Old Time! More than 60 people gathered at the Harrietta Township Hall for the dedication of the Oliver Family Preserve and the CALC annual meeting on September 19th. CALC at the 2015 Blueberry Festival

Our booth at the Harrietta Blueberry Festival on August 1st gave us the opportunity to share our mission with the community.  There was lots of interest in the new Oliver Preserve located on the outskirts of town. We spoke with several land owners about conservation easements. A controlled burn uses fire to improve the environment

The CALC Oliver Family Preserve in Harrietta has the beautiful Slagle Creek running through it and has forests and wetlands for hiking and bird watching. However the entrance to the preserve is in need of invasive species removal and a general enhancement of the grasslands to include more native grasses and wildflowers. DAVE SMITH: Long Time Supporter of CALC

It is with great sadness that CALC announces the 5/4/15 passing of Dave Smith, CALC board member from 2006 through 2012. Dave had experience with another MI conservancy that was invaluable as he administered two important grants for CALC. He oversaw the Wildlife Corridor grant that brought awareness to the need for bear travel over private property from the Mitchell Swamp bear nursery.
