Climax Community

A plant community that is free of disturbance will naturally succeed to a stable plant community. Disturbance may include fire, disease, infestation, windthrow, or human activities. Some factors that affect the potential climax community are soil, precipitation, temperature, elevation, and aspect. Late successional habitat and old growth are other terms or descriptions that are consistent with climax communities.
