Selection Harvest

Carl was a conservationist and believed in the wise use of resources. The Cadillac Area Land Conservancy (CALC) continues his wishes by commercially managing this woodlot. A selection harvest means that trees are individually marked or selected for harvest. A selection harvest using uneven-aged management was recently completed on this woodlot. Trees from all age classes and heights in the canopies have been selected for removal. Trees with the best form and greatest potential for economic return are left to grow. Uneven-aged management ensures a continuing supply of maturing trees and creates small openings for opportunities to regenerate a new age class. This process over a number of harvests will create multiple age classes within the stand, otherwise known as uneven-aged management.
