Geocaching on the CALC Preserves

What is Geocaching? Geocaching is a real world outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS enabled devices. Participants use GPS coordinates to navigate to a specific location posted on a geocaching website where they hope to find the treasure, a geocache or container. This geocache container may contain some trinket or just a log where you can sign to acknowledge that you found the location of this geocache. Johnson Autumn Olive

Invasive or Scenic?   On the CALC Johnson Nature Preserve (on 33 Road near Benson Rd. in Cadillac) Autumn Olive is easy to see and there's lots of it. Left unattended it has gotten out of control. In these photos volunteers are experimenting with how best to control it. At Waldeck Island Nature Preserve the trail to the Sandy Hansen wildlife viewing platform is now coated with wood chips. It will make it easy to spot as you pull into the parking lot. Carl T. Johnson Nature Preserve Kick-Off

An interested group of residents  are now part of the process for making plans for improving the Johnson Preserve on 33 Road, not far from M-55 West. Sally Hansen Memorial Bird Observation Platform

Ed Richards, of E & S Construction, is working in the heat to bring CALC a wildlife viewing platform on Waldeck Island.         You can see how tall the structure is already and the roof is yet to come. CALC Lost a Friend – (George) William Irvine

(George) William Irvine It is with sadness that we join the family of Bill Irvine in announcing his passing May 13, 2016. Bill was one of CALC’s earliest board members when CALC was just still getting off the ground. Bill served from 2001 through 2004. He served with co-founders George Rock and Tom Rensberry and also Dick Loughmiller, Jim Peteresen, Fred Sprague  and John Grix; to name a few.
